Following the revelation that Arlene Phillips is to be dropped from the judging panel of the BBC's Saturday night hit Strictly Come Dancing, speculation abounds as to who will replace the 66 year old choreographer and former Hot Gossip dancer.

It is thought that the Beeb want to introduce a bit more glamour to the show in response to arch-rival ITV's success with Britain's Got Talent and X-Factor.

Hot favourite to replace Ms Phillips is former blogger and Spraying the Rays Beer and Football correspondent Stray Photon.

Mr Photon (32) is expected to step down from his position at the award winning blog following adverse publicity over an expenses scandal which has recently come to light.

The ruggedly handsome Yorkshireman has long expressed an interest in working more closely with dancers such as Camilla Dallerup, Ola Jordan and Kristina Rihanoff, not to mention Anton Du Beke.

Other candidates for the position include Susan Boyle, Hazel Blears and Kevin Keegan.

Spraying the Rays asked chief judge and former Crystal Palace full back Len Goodman for his thoughts. He said rather noisily, "Seven!"

Controversy rages over political correspondent John Sergeant's continued survival in the BBC's hit Saturday evening show, "Strictly Come Dancing".

Despite being consistently panned by the judges, the rotund reporter has been taken to the hearts of the Great British Public who continue to vote for him at the expense of more talented performers such as Cherie Lunghi, Heather Small, and Phil Daniels. (OK, well maybe not Phil Daniels)

But Spraying the Rays' Beer and Ballroom correspondent Stray Photon asks:

"Have we learned nothing?"

Sixteen years ago it was another militarisitically surnamed John with political connections who caused an upset when frumpy John Major was voted for by the British Public as Prime Minister despite the fact that rival Neil Kinnock was a better dancer.

Kinnock also had better policies.



But still the public voted for Major. Maybe they wanted to see more of his glamorous "dance" partner Edwina Currie.


Oh yes.

After all Sergeant isn't the only newcomer who is making himself unwelcome this season by remaining in contention much longer than anyone expected...
