Wow! Another Nick Lowe connection: apparently he joined the band on stage for their last ever gig. I didn't know that until two minutes ago when I googled. I never owned a DD record but I do have one by the Tyla Gang, one of the early Stiff releases which leads back to...Nick Lowe and of course the Damned.
Now then, this reminds me of another in the surprisingly short list of bands with Deluxe in their name; BeBop Deluxe: my first ever gig; Hull City Hall supported by the Doctors of Madness.
Bill Nelson apparently had rigged up a semi-accoustic Gibson (an E335?) to burst into flames as he played it during the final number to mimic the cover of the current album "Sunburst Finish" but the council's fire officer wouldn't let him do it, so instead he had to wander offstage during the last solo and swap his guitar for one that he'd prepared earlier which had already been set on fire under the supervision of the fire officer. (rock and roll, eh?), He then smashed it up on stage. I think the song was "Blazing Apostles". Maybe it was the encore. Made a big imact on such an impresionable youth as myself and helped made me the man I am today...a bitter and resentful underachiever. Oh happy days.

They look like high-class bath accessories to me - Ducks Deluxe.

Don't forget the night we went to see Mr Nick (Lord Mayor of Brentford) Lowe at Shepherd's Bush, I don't know if you recall that I met Paul Kelly...
Also...Dave Vanian occasionally played with The Doctors of Madness after The Damned's first split. What fonts of knowledge we are for our readers!
Hang on...we ARE the readers.
Erm...well done everyone!
